My friends were okay.

That's great. I don't think I could go into law myself.

It's not for everyone. The law doesn't always jive perfectly with what you yourself believe, so it can make it harder to defend someone to the best of your ability when they may have done something you don't agree with.

The problem is, everyone deserves a fair trial, even the most despicable of us. That's kind of the consequence of having the freedoms we do.

That does make sense. I'm not sure if that's my problem with it so much as so much of is based upon conflict no matter which side you're on it feels like. We definitely need good lawyers, though.

That's true. But there are aspects of the law that have to do with mediation? Making sure that both sides get what they need and walk away happy.

Granted, that's not the area I'll be working in, but I like to argue. Not everyone does.

That is true.

I've been around enough arguing to last a life time.

[ Really, he just equates arguing to anger and he likes to avoid anger. For the typically logical person that he is, it isn't all that logical. ]

What area are you wanting to get into exactly?

The kind that doesn't pay much. Right now, I'm aiming for a job at this legal aid office in my hometown. Though I'd love to be district attorney one day. I want to be in a place that'll really allow me to make change.

I just like the idea of being able to help people. And the law seemed like the best way to do that.

I guess I'm a bit more selfish. Until recently all I cared about was getting out of where I'm from and going to college and getting rich.

There's nothing wrong with that, either. Sometimes the world you're in isn't a good fit - there's nothing wrong with wanting to start over.

Yeah, I definitely don't think anything I was doing was wrong.
Doesn't make it any less self-centered, though.

Sometimes you need to be a little self-centered. At the end of the day, someone has to do what's best for you. If it's not going to be someone else, it might as well be yourself.

Yeah and it's better to do for yourself and not owe anyone anything.

Agreed. Owing people things does tend to make the world a more complicated place.
