So the people who use blood magic are taking it for themselves, rather than being born with it?

It's more like

You're digging in the dirt and you find water so you let the water pool into the little hole and splash around a little and make mud pies and all is well. Blood magic is like finding the water and then taking a excavator to the little hole and ripping into the ground to find more water.

Either way the water is there, the means of harnessing it are different.

So it's more like instead of letting it grow naturally, they're trying to jump the line. Take on too much power at once.
