Knew I came here for a reason, ( sara retorts with a small hint of a smile. she kicks off her boots and tugs her feet up onto the couch and kind of accepts that maybe she should say something that's not sarcastic.

here goes her best attempt: )

I'm gonna miss her.

( nailed it, captain obvious, etc. )

She always cared way more about other people than she cared about herself. I wanted to shake her sometimes and tell her how good of a person she is.

( there's a bittersweet smile at that as sara scoops up her respective pint and the corresponding spoon, opening it up and scraping off the excess off of the inside of the lid so she doesn't waste any of it.

but even with the ice cream, her smile seems to fade as she remembers: )

She helped me a lot — when I came back. ( from their world, sara means, an absolute bundle of grief that occasionally flares up and nearly makes her freeze in her tracks. )

I just wish I could do the same for her.

Yeah, that's true, but — I dunno. You know Barry Allen?

( laurel probably knows him better than she does, all things considered. at the very least, sara can lean into the contact that her sister provides. )

Leonard was telling me about how he was here for a really long time and knew all these people here and then went home for a little while except — when he came back, he didn't remember any of it. Anyone. He didn't even know about half the stuff that happened to him in our world.

I can't imagine knowing everything about a person and then them not even remembering who you are.

( the mention of laurel not knowing that she was alive brings forth a fresh twinge of guilt that sara hasn't felt in years. right, she did that. survived. let everyone believe she was dead, because she thought that it was better than them knowing what she became instead. imagining laurel showing up here a little while after her and finding her sister alive and well is an unbearable thought.

sara swallows that down, though, because laurel's dishing the type of big sisterly real talk that she probably needs. for someone who's so horrible at expressing herself how she wants, she's so emotionally driven and irrational sometimes that it's nearly impossible to see the bigger picture. )

I know you're right. I'm just being kinda ridiculous. ( she looks up from the open but untouched container of ice cream in her hand finally. )

I think I told her that I love her.

Typical Leliana stuff.

( said with a soft huff of laughter, as she ditches the ice cream pint altogether. apparently, all she'd really needed was to talk to her sister, no breakup foods required. )

"Je t'aime, coccinelle," ( sara recites with great drama and flourish, before adding: ) She gave me one of those bead things, you know? To go to her world, once I'm done here.

( she's just going to gently leave out the part about leliana's last-minute seduction not only because she's talking to her sister, but because sara's decidedly not proud of how easily seduced she was by leliana when she'd gone into their final meeting dead set on keeping things lowkey so it wouldn't be so hard to let her go. mission not-so-much accomplished, but at least sara's a little more okay now. )

I don't know if I even have a choice, ( she says with a hollow laugh, a small smile lingering at the corners of her mouth. sara, whether she likes to admit it or not, always finds herself in the middle of some kind of epic adventure; to be honest, she doesn't know what she'd do with herself if she wasn't always going going going. the legends might just have to deal if she skipped on over to leliana's world for a little while. )

If I gotta chop some darkspawn in half with a sword to be with my girl, then so be it.

( ah, romance. )
